Loki the trickster god is free from his chains. Now he's readying Naglfar, the Ship of the Dead, armed with a host of giants and zombies, to sail against the Norse gods and begin the final battle of Ragnarok.

It's up to Magnus Chase and his friends to stop Loki's plans, but to do so they will have to sail across the oceans of Midgard, Jotunheim and Niflheim in a desperate race to reach Naglfar before it's ready to sail on Midsummer's Day.

The first pages or so were just way to convenient and predictable to look pass for a higher rating. This doesn't deter me though from saying this book was loads of fun and exciting.

What Magnus Chase does best for me is how it develops its characters. You really got a more in-depth look into all the characters with this final book.

Some more then others yes but every character had a spotlight moment. The plot ties up wonderfully but also leaves a door open to continue the series.

Rick Riordan never disappoints his readers and if he does choose to continue Magnus' story best believe I will be along for the ride.

This is my favorite of the Magnus series. The adventures are a lot of fun. There is a nice little melding with Percy Jackson characters in the beginning.

I love the sense of humor. Sarcasm is a great literary tool. There are lots of causes to support in the Riordan books and I like that young readers are introduced to ethical questions and each person's right to individuality - even if I don't always get every character- which is the whole point of all of us figuring out how to share the planet together!

The elf and the dwarf remain my favorite characters. This cover is gorgeous. I got my copy of the book delivered yesterday, on release day, and I cannot get over it.

Now, onto the book. I love these characters. I want them all as my friends. So basically, everyone is awesome.

Okay, so speaking of crazy smiles, that's all I had on my face these past two days. I read some of this book at school, so hopefully I didn't look too weird.

The Ship of the Dead was super cool. Magnus and his friends had to do a bunch of impossible stuff and other kickass things. As always, the various Norse gods, jotun, elves, etc.

It made for some humorous and deadly luckily not to Magnus or his friends scenes. This book revealed a lot of backstory on the einherjar.

It was heartbreaking, and interesting, and funny. I liked this a lot. Anyway, something is happening down in New York.

At least according to Annabeth at the end of the book. Also, Percy was there, like I said. He has a little sister, Estelle Blofis.

Other noises that occur when Percy Jackson appears and is his beautiful self. Rick Riordan does again. Smart, accurate, funny, and serious.

I have never seen an author nearly perfect this in a while. I have been a fan of his demigod books since The Lightning Thief, though I still hate the movie versions, I have read every book since then and the Magnus Chase books are the best by far.

The gods are completely nuts and bizarre, but they are great and well written. The biggest thing I love about his books is that every story has to be read from Lightning Thief and onwards to understand and know every in-joke and character outside the new cast.

All the pantheons connect and I cannot wait to see how it will all end. I still don't want to see it all go though.

Keep up the great work Riordan. Riordan writes wonderful adventure novels for readers of all ages. I particularly like the fact that he shows no hesitation about having characters of different colors, cultures, religions, and sexual orientations, and they work together as one, as friends and partners, instead of enemies.

A message the youth of today sorely need. It's great to see a writer of children's and young adults' novels not shying away from political correctness.

Read it as soon as I could. Anticipating something good to read for months. Ties in well with other series, easy to read.

Now Magnus, Samirah, Alex, Heath, Blitz and the rest of floor 19 sail to Norway to prevent Loki from launching the ship that will allow the forces of the dead and the Giants to begin Ragnarok.

They don't get too much help from the Gods because that would make it too easy and then the book would be depressingly short.

Riordan's book is as humorous as always. I think my favorite part was the way he described Aegir as a hipster interested in microbrews, stuck in the express line at a Whole Foods because he just wanted to buy his matcha smoothie but ahead of him were tons of individuals who did not respect the sanctity of the express lane.

As someone who has found himself in a similar situation at Whole Foods thought it was Maple Water for me , I found this hilarious. In addition there are hilarious scenes involving giant metal ducks.

The book is a great conclusion to the trilogy. Though I wish this were a five-parter and we had two more books with these characters, Ah well, maybe they will appear in some future books as Annabeth and Percy have appeared here.

The Ship of the Dead was a great conclusion to the Magnus Chase series, however I did think it was the weakest entry of the three books.

Dec 21, Ashley Nuckles rated it it was amazing. That has to be my favorite in the series. I'm in love and NEED. Apr 29, P rated it liked it Shelves: Sometimes you lie because you need the lie to become the truth.

The beginning sounded promising and I could feel there're a lot of mind-blowing packages that were to come, but I felt a bit let down after halfway through this book.

It was not what I expected, tbh. Isn't there anything new and fresh to put in? I wonder that after all this time the story goes on, it hasn't developed much.

Yet many characters seem to grow up and learn some valuable life lessons, but the way Mr. Riordan manages to tell his story is just dull and boring.

Anyway, some part of me still enjoyed it quite enough because I wanted to know the ending and how the gang pulls it off. What I liked in this book?

The big picture cannot be changed. But in the meantime, as Loki once said, we can choose to alter the details. If there were any chance that this series would continue, please give me more Thor.

I can't get enough of him. View all 6 comments. May 07, April rated it it was amazing. I don't think I could ever rate any of Rick's books lower than 5 stars.

Or am I dying because of the feels? Am I reborn in Valhalla? Those are all great questions. I loved every single character in this book, and I think what I liked the most was knowing all the stories behind Mallory, T.

Seeing Samirah fasting, doing her prayers, breaking her fast with dates, focusing on her emotions, it was simply amazing.

Magnus is best at healing people, making them feel whole again, important and loved. But being a healer sometimes means you forget about yourself, how amazing and valuable you are.

Uncle Rick is truly a good ally. That is something you cannot take away from him. We do not deserve Rick Riordan. View all 9 comments.

D I can't wait to get t Puck wrote: D I can't wait to get to know Magnus Chase and fall in love with another Riordan se Abhi I completely agree. This book is definetely one of those books where you just have to keep on reading because you want to know what happens next, and I completely agree.

This book is definetely one of those books where you just have to keep on reading because you want to know what happens next, and that is the reason why I personaly enjoyed this book so much.

I found the book to be like this since you cant really predict what is going to happen next since there are just so many possibilities of what could happen next, so you have to keep reading.

And this book definetely does bring more depth to the charecters, which was a good way to wrap up the series since you get to really know the charecters before the series ends.

Final review, first posted on Fantasy Literature: Right now the ship is docked between Niflheim the world of ice and fog and Jotunheim the home of the giants , prepared to set sail as soon as Midsummer causes the ice on the sea to melt enough.

Loki loves global warming, by the way. Clearly Magnus Chase and his friends need to stop him somehow! And sometimes seemingly significant events like, say, developing the ability to understand the speech of animals, are raised and then dropped with little or no explanation or resolution.

But Magnus Chase cracks lots of jokes along the way, some of which are actually quite amusing. Riordan finds creative ways to weave in many actual legends and characters from Norse mythology.

I was particularly impressed when I did a little online sleuthing regarding Bolverk, and found that an ancient legend concerning Bolverk, a whetstone, a battle with slaves and the mead of poetry had been neatly woven into the text of The Ship of the Dead.

That Naglfar ship though. Parents of younger readers may want to be aware that the gender-fluid Alex, introduced in the second book, The Hammer of Thor , becomes romantically involved with another character in this book trying to avoid too many spoilers here.

Regardless of your stance on this hot topic, it's a good one to discuss with your kids. I received a free copy of this book from the publisher, Disney-Hyperion, for review.

Thats part of the reason why I even read his books: I think that it is interesting that we get to see Percy Jackson appear in the Magnus Chase a couple of times, since the Percy Jackson series is probably my favorite series and I like the charecters in that series.

I think your right that the teaser involving Percy could be pointing to the next series of Rick Riordans wonderful books. I personally would really like to see some kind of crossover series where Camp Halfblood and Valhalla must team up to take down a common enemy.

Nov 06, View all 13 comments. Apr 30, ambsreads rated it it was amazing Shelves: But, hey, what can you do?

Okay, now fully into the ramble; Some books you truly want to be longer than a trilogy. The story of Magnus Chase is one of them for me.

I know absolutely nothing about Norse mythology. Norse mythology was a big wide world of nothing for me. This series took me a while to get into and to learn the particular gods of this world, but once I was into it I was so completely in love with the characters.

He creates fresh characters in every series and their backstories will have you in tears. We have such a diverse cast of characters particularly throughout this series that it is the perfect middle-grade novel.

This book details Magnus and our well-known friends going on a journey to defeat Loki. Of course, nothing goes right and there are several side adventures that keep humour up and myself engaged as a reader.

This was the perfect book for me to read at the current time. My family is going through some struggles right now and I am getting my wisdom teeth ripped out on Thursday, so I just need to keep myself distracted but not too distracted, if that makes sense?

Riordan is one of the best writers for the plot, though. I just love all the additions to the overall story and the even larger addition of humour.

These books will get you smiling and giggling. It was cute, sweet and completely relatable.
